Modern English

I’ve been told Elijah used very old English.

  • As old as Beatrix Potter (1910)? “Oh, do let’s.”
  • Or Jane Austen (1811 AD)? “It is a truth universally acknowledged….”
  • Maybe even King James (1611 AD)? “I am sore distressed….”

Elijah did not speak English, you say? But Hebrew?

And Elijah’s Hebrew was not that of Moses, who lived centuries before Elijah. Elijah spoke Hebrew that was modern to Elijah’s moment.

So I write his story in the English of our day, and I think Miss Potter, Ms. Austen, and King James will understand.
